The primary responsibility for the care and treatment of ex-Service men and women lies with the NHS.
But because the NHS is unable to deliver the continuity of care and welfare support that those with psychiatric problems require, it falls largely upon us to meet this need in our society. That is why our work is so vital and why it is no less vital that as many people as possible benefit from our service.
The Society provides specialist treatment and welfare services for veterans suffering from psychological injuries associated with service trauma.

Referrals reach us through many channels. Among them, the War Pensions Welfare Service, Benevolent Fund case workers, regimental associations, The Royal British Legion and SSAFA Forces Help, other service and civilian charities and GP's who know about the service the Society provides will refer veterans to our Welfare Service at the point of entry. The Society works closely with the Ministry of Defence, with the aim of ensuring that serving personnel get to know what is available to them before medical discharge takes place.
For each referral we receive, it will be the Society's Welfare Service that sets up the all-important link with the veteran, and it will be one of the Society's Regional Welfare Officers who will make the first home visit.
The prime help which can be given is through admission to one of the Society's Treatment Centres where remedial treatment aims to help the veteran both understand what is causing the problem and how to cope with the suffering which is being experienced.
