About Us
Combat Stress is the leading service provider in the care of Veterans' mental health. We are able to deliver specialist, trauma-focused treatment and support to Ex-Service men and women whose problems are chronic, complex and long term. We also provide help and advice to their families.
We do this through two main activities:
- Short-stay clinical treatment – within a safe, peer-group setting – at one of our residential centres in Ayrshire, Shropshire and Surrey.
- Community outreach – delivered through a network of Mental Health Practitioners, Community Psychiatric Nurses, and Regional Welfare Officers.
Our Beliefs
- All Veterans suffering from psychological wounds deserve access to highly specialised treatment and care.
- Members of the Armed Forces should be trained to recognise the symptoms of Service-related psychological injury, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, in themselves and in others so that treatment may be sought quickly and rates of recovery improved/increased.
- The wide dissemination of information relating to psychological disorders is key to early diagnosis and treatment, as well as to the reduction in stigma.
- By successful campaigning and education, Combat Stress will contribute to a better understanding of mental ill health in the country as a whole, as well as in the Armed Forces and Veteran community.
