Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a relatively new therapy developed in the last 20 years.  One form of the treatment involves prompting rapid eye movement with outside stimuli, while the patient reflects on the event that is causing distress.

The procedure can eliminate or lessen the negative associations of the traumatic event and it has a calming, self-affirming effect.  EMDR can work very well with Veterans who have disturbing thoughts, feelings or flashbacks.

"Two treatments made all the difference to me: EMDR and CBT... Thanks to EMDR, I don't have flashbacks anymore."

Scott, Northern Ireland Veteran
