Service-related mental ill health

We look after Veterans who come to us with a wide range of mental health issues. We are not just concerned with the care of those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), although this is a predominant condition within our patient group.

Below is a list of the most common types of mental health problems that our clinicians deal with:

  • PTSD
  • Clinical depression
  • Anxiety states
  • Adjustment disorders
  • Phobic disorders
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Bi-polar illness (manic depression)
  • Issues relating to past and present substance abuse/dependence (drug and alcohol)
  • Psychotic conditions in a non-acute phase
  • Issues relating to anger

Many of the Veterans we see suffer from more than one of these conditions (known medically as co-morbidity), and these problems are often complicated by relationship and home-life difficulties.

"Since leaving the Services I get nightmares, disturbed sleep and panic attacks. I don't like going out on public transport because of my panic attacks.

"Since being in Bosnia, I have had problems eating and I can't eat in front of people..."
