Combat Stress is part of the UK Trauma Group and ascribes to mainstream, evidence-based practice.

The techniques we use comply with the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies Treatment Guidelines and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) Treatment Guidelines. 

Our treatment programme 

Veterans who come to Combat Stress will be offered a broad-ranging therapeutic programme specifically designed to address Service-related mental ill health that is often complex, chronic and enduring in nature.  The programme includes:  

Psycho-education

This helps patients understand their symptoms, and it covers issues such as:

  • The effects of traumatic exposure
  • Anxiety Management
  • Anger Management
  • Social Skills Training
  • Coping Skills Training
  • Alcohol and illicit Drug Abuse / Dependence

Trauma-focused psychotherapy

This includes:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Art Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Solution-focused Therapy
  • Sleep Management

Activities-based rehabilitation

  • Physical Exercise and Outdoor Pursuits
  • Occupational and Recreational Therapies
  • Recreational art and writing
