What we provide
Combat Stress takes a "whole person approach" to the care of Veterans with mental health problems.
This means that we offer residential, community and welfare support to help Veterans meet their everyday needs – needs that may have been neglected as a result of psychological injury.
This approach is central to improving the overall quality of life of the individuals in our care, and in helping them step firmly on the road to recovery.
Community outreach
In addition to short-stay treatment, in some regions of the UK we now provide community-based clinical care delivered by teams of Mental Health Practitioners (MHPs) and Community Psychiatric Nurses (CPNs). Hopefully, with funds raised through The Enemy Within Appeal, we will be able to establish this as a nationwide service.
We already operate a national network of Regional Welfare Officers, who provide practical support to Veterans in their own homes.
Our Welfare Officers can help in a number of ways, for example: assisting with War Pension claims and other non-means tested Benefits; representing Veterans at Tribunals; assisting those nearing the end of a prison sentence with their arrangements; or merely being an understanding listener.
By working with a network of other ex-Service charities and support agencies, our Welfare Officers can also help individuals access better housing, as well as training and employment opportunities.
And, as the first point of contact a Veteran usually has with Combat Stress, they can introduce individuals to specialist treatment for their mental health problems.
