Substance Misuse Nurse - Leeds
Status: Fixed-term Contract until 31st March 2020
Salary: Band 6, £26,959-£36,104 per annum (pro rata) dependent on experience, plus car allowance
Hours: 17.5 hours/week

Combat Stress was established in 1919. We are the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For a century, we’ve helped former servicemen and women deal with trauma-related mental health conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression.
Today we provide UK-wide support to veterans from every service and every conflict, on the phone and online, in the community and at our treatment centres. We’re on a mission to raise awareness that invisible injuries can be just as hard to cope with as physical ones. So when a veteran is having a tough time, we’re there to help tackle the past and to take on the future.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our community-based Veterans Substance Misuse team. The team seek to support people with substance misuse through their treatment journey and into long term recovery. The team promotes the development of a specialist recovery pathway for Veterans experiencing substance misuse who may also have mental health problems. The aim is to use assertive outreach to engage Veterans in case management for specialist treatment within the areas identified and signpost to other organisations to improve their health outcomes.
The Veterans Substance Misuse Nurses will carry out expert evidence based substance misuse and mental health assessments, case management and care co-ordination, using their specialist knowledge to refer appropriately to the wider multi-disciplinary teams within the Local Substance Misuse Services.
The Nurses will also become a specialist resource for education and training for other professionals, particularly in relation to substance misuse and mental health issues affecting Veterans
Previous experience of working with Veterans is desirable and it is essential that you have experience in community mental health. You should be skilled at building networks to benefit the Veterans that you work with.
