Welsh soap opera teams up with combat stress

Welsh-language television soap opera Pobol y Cwm has developed a storyline about veterans’ mental health, which is now being screened on channel S4C.

Earlier this year the show sought advice from Combat Stress’ clinicians and veterans to ensure an accurate plot around the character of Dr Elgan, a former Army medic.

After serving in recent conflicts, Dr Elgan left the military and moved to a small Welsh town to start afresh. Viewers have seen him settle into the community and become an integral part of it. However, symptoms of his post-traumatic stress disorder have begun to surface.

We are very proud to have been involved in Pobol y Cwm’s storyline and research process, and are grateful to the programme for its commitment to highlighting veterans’ mental health.

We encourage anyone affected by Dr Elgan’s story to call our 24-hour Helpline on 0800 138 1619.
