Thank you so much to everyone who walked, ran and even completed their ten miles in suits of armour, with their dogs, families or friends to raise essential funds for Combat Stress to help those veterans who need our services.

When a veteran is having a tough time, we’re there to help tackle the past and to help them take on the future. By taking part in March in March, your fundraising efforts make a huge difference to the lives of the former servicemen and women who turn to us for support.

We set our original target of £80,000 but are delighted to tell you that the final tally is a fantastic £160,000 and over 1,600 people completed their March in March. Last year we had just 1,150 participants so it is wonderful that even more people signed up. And thank you also to our corporate partners who encouraged their staff to get out and enjoy a walk. Thank you to Corps Security, Serco, Unum, Amazon and the Army Cadet Force amongst many other generous company teams who took time out to March in March.

Some colleagues at Combat Stress even braved the rain in fancy dress, our trustees took part as well as many individuals and teams, to raise over £7000.

A big shout out to the students from Ark Alexandra Cadets from the Ark Alexandra Academy in Hastings, who not only braved less than ideal walking conditions, but topped the fundraising leaderboard raising £8506. Led by their assistant principal, Captain Nicholas Burchell, who runs the Combined Cadet Force at the school, it was a fantastic team effort.

Thank you Nelly’s Heroes, who topped the leaderboard for individual fundraising, who set out to raise £250 but raised over £2,300! The team from the Dog & Parrot are named Nelly’s Heroes in honour of a veteran, Derek Nelson (nicknamed Nelly) who used to be a regular at the pub. Combat Stress was his favourite charity and staff, and other regulars, many who are veterans or still serving in the military, took part in the walk. This is now an annual event, the team was set up in March 2021 in memory of Nelly.

With your help we can now fund more art therapy sessions, pay for psychiatric and occupational therapy sessions and support more family members and veterans. Thank you not only for raising funds but spreading awareness.
